Abstract
poor state of repair, that 75% - 80% of schools had no access to toilet facilities for teachers or pupils and that fewer than 50% of schools had access to potable water. Between 2010 and 2016, ESSPIN implemented an infrastructure programme in a selection of schools across six states. This report describes the successes and challenges that have faced ESSPIN’s infrastructure work and how working in close partnership with the States, ESSPIN has contributed to significant, measurable and sustained progress in improving infrastructure delivery used by almost a quarter of a million children every year.

Abstract
ESSPIN supported the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to conduct 6-Day Training-of-Trainers workshops on replicating School Based Management best practices for senior government officials in the education sector and Civil Society Organisation (CSOs) from 19 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. Feedback from the participants showed improved knowledge and skills and better attitude towards SBM development and training.

The research was conducted in four pre-selected ESSPIN representative States of Nigeria; Enugu, Kano, Kwara and Jigawa. Abstract
ESSPIN provided technical support to enhance capacity for National SBMC replication in 7 states focusing on domestication of National SBMC guidelines. In this regard technical support was provided primarily to SUBEBs for an all inclusive approach to state and community level consultations and visioning. Based on the revised National Guidelines on SBMC, home grown SBMC policy was developed for each of the 6 states.

The report presents the initial results on the impact of participation in Islamiyya schools as opposed to regular SS schools on girls’ levels of religiosity and future life aspirations. The follow-up survey designed for early 2016 will yield more decisive results by tracking girls from the baseline survey to see what actual life choices they have made since graduating from school.

School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) work to increase communities’ involvement with education, hold schools accountable, and to help improve the quality and effectiveness of schools. They provide a way of helping the education authorities to listen to what adults and children want from schools, and a way of increasing the contributions of everyone in the local area to making education work well.
